From time immemorial, mankind has always been obsessed with the human sexuality. Countless books have been written on various subjects dealing with sexuality, how to improve it and how to make it last. It's been bandied around that only humans and pigs have sex for enjoyment. All the rest of the species indulge in sex primarily for purposes of procreation. Humans (and pigs in this case) just want to have fun. This need to indulge in wanton sexual activity has seen empires crumble i.e. The Roman Empire that decayed to its core with the sexual debauchery of the emperors and masses alike, it has also seen a rise in crimes of passion. The Kamasutra is a living embodiment of our sexual awareness and decadence.
Lingerie is a word that denotes visually appealing undergarments that are won by both male and female and accentuates their sex appeal. These types of garments differ from normal and basic undergarments based on cotton, in that the material used to make them is stretchy and more appealing. Materials like satin, nylon, lace; polyester and silk are most commonly used in lingerie.
This form of clothing has evolved from girdles and corsets that were extremely bulky and constricting to women, to recent ones which are form fitting. In the 18th century, women wore girdles either to create a shapely form or for hygiene or even for modesty. When wars became rampant and the men enlisted to fight, menial back breaking jobs were performed by women who with the need to wear less bulky clothes started wearing less and less clothes. Women's clothing underwent a transformation, and clothes makers of yore started making more conventional clothes for women and that included brassieres and panties that were more manageable.
Every woman nowadays wants to look smart, sassy and confident. What better way to achieve this but by dressing the part. The women's clothing and Lingerie market has spawned a multi billion dollar industry, with clothes designers carving a niche for themselves and running very successful companies. For a long time, the beauty products, clothes and lingerie industries have collectively championed the slim, waif looking model as the face of beauty, much to the chagrin of women all over the world who pack a bit more in the weight department. There has been a shift in attitudes so much that big women are no longer called fat or obese, but are referred to as thick, plus size, phat (pretty, hot and thick) and even BBW, which stands for a big beautiful woman. The industry big wigs have realized they have been ignoring a market so large (pardon the pun). A shift in how this niche market is perceived has enabled both designers and clients to come together for their mutual benefit. Now plus sized models, modeling the latest in women's clothing and sexy lingerie have graced many catwalks and even for a while, plus sized lingerie was all the rage, with many pageants started in their honor.
